Aveda Creates Graceful Waves at the Christian Siriano Show

I am so thankful for God's grace.  It is more than sufficient.

So Aveda is creating some very cool and interesting looks for the BEST shows.  I remembered when I went to New York Fashion Week, I loved watching the Aveda team work their magic. They are so talented!

At the Christian Siriano show, Aveda's lead stylist Antoinette Beenders, created graceful waves using Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair, Aveda Air Control Hair Spray, and Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray. 

“The Christian Siriano hair for this season is sinuous and matte—beautiful waves that are neither too beachy nor too glam.  It’s pretty in the simplest way.” — Antoinette Beenders for Aveda.

Ms. Beenders' inspiration for creating the soft wavy look was Christian's collection which was inspired by the "graceful beauty of orchid flower petals." Lovely.

Here is the look:

The stylists first loosely braided the hair and then gently pressed each braid with a flat iron.

Next, the braids were let loose and combed out.  The stylist set the look with Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray.

This look will work with all hair types that have been blown out.  I really really like this.

Hot Drugstore Find of the Week: PROFECTIV Root Health Anti-Dryness Strengthener

I have been testing out a new product on Luxe Baby's hair.  Now you know I LOVE Miss Jessie's Baby Buttercream for her hair.  It defines her pretty curls and slicks her hair into a style unlike any other hair product.  Plus I really do believe it is making her hair grow like wild fire...or it could be because she has hair like her grandmother...but I digress.  I love it. 

But recently I ran out of Baby Buttercream and I have not had the time to go to Curltopia to get a couple more jars.  So until I do, I found Strength of Nature, Profective Root Health Anti-Dryness Strengthener in my beauty arsenal.  I received the product to test about 6 months ago, but never had a need to use it.  Well desperate times call for desperate measures and I had to find something to tame her hair into ponytails and twists.

This hair cream is light weight and instantly moisturizes her hair.  This product is designed for persons who have natural hair styles and are suffering from dryness, itching and flaking.   So it is extremely moisturizing.  It does define her natural curls and does not make her hair feel sticky.  The baby buttercream does make her hair sticky, but it keeps her styles in place.  The Profective Root Health does not necessarily keep her hair style in place.  It is a bit too light weight for luxe baby's hair.  But overall it has been a good substitute for the past two weeks.  I think the Profective is perfect as a natural styling product for natural divas with light to medium hair textures.

PREEN MAC COSMETICS AND CHARLOTTE RONSON

I hope you are having an awesome day! It is rainy and coooold in NYC! But that does not stop Mercedez-Benz New York Fashion Week!

Today I had the opportunity to cover make-up and hair for the Preen Fashion Show. Preen is a British label that was launched in 1996. The clothes are edgy, punk rockish, and futuristic. Keeping this in mind, the lead MAC Make-up Artist, James Kaliardos, created a look that was slightly futuristic with a masculine/feminine vibe. As Mr. Kaliardos stated, "the girls look masculine but are still super beautiful and feminine. The look was very light but futuristic. The MAC artist started with healthy looking skin.

He then applied the following:

MAC Moisture Care Concealer. This product was applied only where needed. Full coverage foundation was not used.
MAC Pro Cheek Color in Sculpt was used to contour the cheeks and on the eye lids.
Lashes were curled only without Mascara.
MAC Pro Pigment in Platinum was used in the inner corner of the eye.
MAC lip conditioner was used on the lips.
MAC White Eye Pencil, Fascination, was used in the center of the lips as a highlighter.

Here is the look: simplistic, light, and futuristic.


The hair was done by Bumble and Bumble stylists. The look was boyish/girlie, which was a more short cut styled with Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. The stylists used a hair dryer and their hands to style this look. There is also a slight pouff in the front for a sleek but manageable look.

I also went to the Charlotte Ronson show. Charlotte Ronson is a young hip line that is all the rage with young starlets! Nikki Hilton and Keri Hilson are huge fans! They were in the front row! The clothes were very rock and roll yet feminine and ultra modern. Here are a few pics!

Pro Silk Ceramic Mini-Flat Iron: For the hard to reach places!

I hope your Monday is going well!

Recently I was given the opportunity to try Pro Silk's Ceramic Mini-Flat Iron. As I previously reported, I try not to use a flat iron on a regular basis. However, if my blow out starts to puff out and I need to smooth the edges or if I want a little body, I will use one.

I used this iron for the first time last week before I went in for another blow out. My blow out was pretty much gone. Georgia humidity! I had a meeting to attend and the only style I could manage was an up do. I whipped out Pro Silk's Ceramic Mini Flat Iron and smoothed out all of my edges. The heat was hot enough to get the job done quickly. In addition, the small size allowed me to get all the edges and not so straight parts with ease. After using this flat iron, I felt confident that I had a decent hairstyle. Divas I tell ya this is the perfect flat iron for smoothing and maintaining straight styles. I did attempt to create a curl with this iron and that was a no go. The iron is too small for that! LOL! But for straightening, it is genius.

Hautelanta Fashion Week: Sexy Updos are in for Spring 09!

I hope your week is off to a great start! Keeping in step with New York Fashion Week, Sexy Updos were a hit at Hautelanta Fashion Week. Ladies get your bobby pins and hair clips ready because Spring 09 is the season for care free, loosely held, sexy updos! Marion Summers of de'Amar Salon & Spa was the lead stylists for several of the shows. He told me he wanted to create a "couture feel with a victorian vibe" when he put a twist on the classic updo. He used lots of curls when creating the pin ups. Also, Marion exclusively used all Aveda products. Specificially he used Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid for smoothness and shine and Aveda Hair Control Hair Spray to hold the updos in place. Marion said that "Couture is his inspiration!" Gotta love it! Check out these Haute styles.

1. Purple Rain. This hairstyle is just fabulous! It is so Prince circa 1984! I call it rock and roll glam! You can create this look by using a medium barrel curling iron creating tight curls. Then take bobby pins and pin up each side of your hair making sure to let the curls loosely fall in the front.


2. Updos with side parts and side ponytails. This look is so girly and carefree.


3. Updo with a pouffy bang. This look is so utterly chic. Classy with a twist.
