I have been going to a new salon.  No, I didn't leave my stylist.  She and all of the other stylists from my old salon have moved and joined the new and fabulous So Kai salon.  Master stylist and owner of So Kai, Sophia Johnson, has opened a new uber cool and swanky establishment located in the heart of East Atlanta Village.

So Kai offer an array of hair services.  They specialize in natural hair styles such as locs, twists, and curly styles; straight styles such as blow outs, pressing and perms; exceptional color services; and extensions.

But what makes So Kai salon unique is that they also offer other beauty pampering services.  They have a full service wellness spa that provides facials, massages, ionic foot baths, and colonics.  Plus there is a full service beauty bar where you can get make up applications, threading, and lash application.  So Kai Salon is a true beauty retreat you can visit right here in the heart of Intown Atlanta, without having to travel to get there.  Fantabulous!

Luxe hair: Amika Hydration Cream

We are still snowed in in the A. I am still in shock.  But I am thankful for having a home, food, and heat during this storm.  God is good!

Right before Christmas, I received a new hair product to try from Amika.  Amika is a hair care company based out of Israel and specializes in hair styling tools and hair care products.  Apparently their Obliphica hair care products are all the rage.  They are specifically designed for curly hair.  The Obliphica line includes obliphica oil known to nourish the hair and restore natural moisture and balance and Morrocan Argan Oil known to produce remarkable shine to hair and also improve elasticity and reduce hair loss due to breakage.  I am always open to try new products on luxe baby's hair, so I thought we would give it a whirl.

I used the hydration cream on luxe baby after washing her hair.  The cream can be used on wet hair or dry hair if you need moisture.  The cream is very light weight, which I loved.  It has a very silky texture.  The cream instantly hydrated luxe baby's hair.  Her hair absorbed the cream immediately.  It made her hair soft and manageable.  I used a small palm size of the cream and easily twisted her hair without having to re-apply a lot of the cream.

Results

The cream made her twists very soft and defined without product build-up.  Her hair had a smooth and soft texture...not sticky at all.  Here is a pic:

Also, I am able to apply a quarter size amount every morning to smooth her hair and re-define her curly twists.  Not bad.

The Obliphica line also includes a curl defining cream, nourishing mask, pure obliphic oil, a serum, and spray.  So far I have been very impressed with the product.  I would love to try the curl defining cream to see if I can achieve more curl definition.  I think the hydration cream does an excellent job of curl definition, but maybe the curl definition cream is better.

Also for the past 2-3 months I have been using Mega Profectiv Growth Lotion on my hair as a heat protectant.  Strength of Nature sent the product out for me to test and so far so good.  The product contains wheat protein, oat protein, soy protein and horsetail extract.  These ingredients claim to strengthen and grow your hair.  It also contains olive oil, flax seed oil, jojoba oil for moisture and shine.  Lastly silk amino acids, avocado oil, coconut oil and grape seed oil are included for shine and heat protection.

This product is super oily so you only need a teeny tiny amount to distribute through your hair.  I originally started using it because it is a heat protectant and sometimes I use tons of heat on my hair.  I think it is doing a good job in protecting my hair form excessive breakage.  My stylist has not complained of any breakage in a month!  I am not sure if it is making any difference as far as growth is concerned.  But I love how it makes my hair super shiny and I feel like my hair is being nourished by all of those fab ingredients!

My Hair Care Routine

AVEENO® presented me with the opportunity to share my hair care routine on their blog and with my readers. First let me tell you a little bit about my hair. It is very very coarse and tightly coiled. I previously had a relaxer for 17 years. However, the constant chemical process begin to thin out my hair, so two years ago, I decided to grow out my relaxer. I am proud to say that I am now 100% natural. However, I do still get a blow out and press every two weeks. What can I say, I just like my hair straight! But my hair is very thick, shiny, and strong. It is growing very fast and I love it! I always get compliments on how healthy my hair looks! To me this is the best compliment ever. Check out my routine!

1. Every two weeks, I go to Fluer Elysee Salon in Atlanta, GA and get a blow out and press.

2. I apply a small amount of coconut oil to my scalp and massage 3 x per week. I apply the left over oil in my hands to my hair for added sheen. I learned this tip from DE from Beautylogicblog. Since, I have been doing this, my hair is growing faster and always has a nice shine.

3. Every night I pile my hair on top of my head and place a soft cotton headband around the pile. I then lightly wrap my head in a silk scarf. In the morning, I simply run a comb through my hair and go. If I need a little extra curl or body, I take large sections of my hair and use my flat iron to create big curls.


And that is my hair care routine! I think it is pretty simple and low maintenance. My blow out usually lasts two weeks unless I sweat a lot or somehow get it wet. I would love to hear your hair care routine. Please share. I am always looking for new hair care tips!

Johnson's Body Care/Luxetips Party!

I hope your day is awesome! I feel like Spring is finally here in Atlanta. Yes! It is so pretty outside.

As many of you know, Johnson's Body Care asked me and a group of other fabulous bloggers to host a Cause Party highlighting beauty, women friendships, and helping others. The Johnson's Body Care/Luxetips Cause Party took place this Sunday and it was a blast! We had delicious food, Berry Mimosas, and great conversations about Beauty. Funkdiviagirl. Must have facials, pedicures, eyebrows groomed, lip gloss, DiorShow Mascara, Tarte gel blush. FYI..The Targe gel is the businesses. Everyone kept complimenting her glow!

Cutiebootycakes. Must have good foundation. She was wearing Lancome Foundation and it looked so natural. Did I mention that I love Lancome?

Kia. Must have essential oils for the skin. Her favorites, lavender, lemongrass, and eucalyptus oil.

Inan. Must have Urban Decay eyeshadow and HD foundation.

Jackie. Must have Eucerin lotion and Fashion Fair Cosmetics! Hello!

Nicola. Must have Water. Love it!

Tiffany. Must have Dove Soap. I use it to wash daily.

This was a great conversation! Also we discussed the awesome Johnson's Body Care products. The 24 Hour Body Wash is by far the most luxurious drugstore brand body wash I have ever used. Read my review here. I am also excited to try the Be Radiant Cocoa & Shea Butter Lotion. It claims to visibly even skin tone and texture. I will let you know if it lives up to the hype!

Of course the party was for a cause. The charity I chose to highlight was CARE's Women Empowerment Initiative. This program provides resources to women in poor communities around the world. I am so excited that we raised funds for this much needed program.

All in all the party was just so much fun. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
