May I make the suggestion: invest in a body wash with salicylic acid or treat your back, shoulders and neck with the same products you treat your face. All too often we underestimate the sexiness of our backs. So concerned about our entrance we often forget the our exits are just as powerful.

Urban Outfitter's Cut-Out Dress

I know most people want to find a flirty way to say hello, but sometimes you may want to find a flirty way to say goodbye. It is much better to end well than to begin well. A  cut-out dress is the perfect way to make a dramatic exit. Cut-out dresses are both demure and spicy. I think of it as the mullet of dresses- business in the front and party in the back. The Sparkle & Fade Knit Bow Back Dress is a simple crew-neck, black jersey dress that hits mid thigh. Pretty Polished Patents at Urban Outfitters and Amazon!

The oxford trend has been hanging around for a couple of seasons now, but every season there is slight twist. This season's oxfords are fun and funky in pretty and popping colored patent leather. One of my favs, the Pour La Victoire Women's Nicia Oxford  comes in a rich mauve. If it were in my closet, I would treat it as a neutral and pair it with a pale yellow shirtdress. The heel is 3/4 of an inch.  You can find the Nicia at Amazon for $195.00.

 

I love the unexpected burst of orange on the Deena and Ozzy Patent Oxford. It is a third of the cost of the  Pour La Victoire listed above and just as fun. Wear it with some cropped or ankle length khakis and an oversized white tee that hangs slightly off the shoulder.  The heel is one half inch. Day 2: Cigarette Pants

Smokin' Hot

 

I cannot say it enough: the looks of the 50's and '60's are the ultimate for ladylike attire. I always aspire to be more of a lady. Frequently, I admonish my mother for not saving any of her clothes from her younger years. Not that I would be able to wear them, but I love the authenticity of her handsewn a-line shifts in Pucci-like prints.

 

Currently, I am on the search for some cool cigarette pants to wear with soft gamine mohair sweaters so I can pretend that I am Rizzo from Grease. I found a couple of  options:

 

The Love Moschino is a classic black pant with front pockets and faux back pockets. Back pockets are so necessary on a cigarette pant because of the flat straight fit. You do not want to flatten all of your curves. As Moschino describes, " [cigarette pants are ] a heavenly habit you can't extinguish!' I agree. BDG has both twill and corduroy cigarette pants. The  BDG Twill Grazer Cigarette Pant  comes in a mustard color suitable for the last days of fall. It contains both cotton and spandex, providing a little give in the hips, where you may need it most. The BDG Twill Grazer has both front and back pockets and  a medium rise. I cannot say how grateful I am for the medium rise pant.  I cannot go into the 30s with low rise pants. I could barely do it with  20-something hips.

 

BDG Corduroy Ankle Cigarette Pant  comes in a playful maroon color.  Like the BDG Twill Grazer, the Corduroy Ankle Cigarette Pant has both front and back pockets, a medium rise, and a percentage of spandex. What I love about both of these pairs are the amount of wear you can get by pairing the pants with funky heels in early fall, flats in early spring, and boots in winter. Despite its length, the cigarette pant is a very versatile. Originally, $49.00, the BDG cigarette pants are on sale now for  $ 29.00 at Urban Outfitters.

Faux Fur is HOT!!!

Hello Divas!

 

 

I hope your Monday is filled with many successes and blessings! Expect nothing but the best of everything this week.

Day 18

Environmentally friendly designers have stepped up their game and are including a host of fur pieces in their Winter lines. Fur is such a huge trend right now, that faux furs have been given a more luxurious look at more affordable prices. Being from the South, there is rarely an opportunity to wear fur without looking a little offbeat. Our Summer extends well into Fall, and our Winters are more of a Northern Summer. There are some furs that  I would rock in our current 60 degree weather.

 

I am an old school girl, so the two faux coats that speak to me are reminiscent of old Hollywood. The first is a collarless brown faux rabbit that reminds me of the early Eighties. It has hook and eye closures, puff sleeves, and is fully lined. You almost don't need a reason to wear it.   The Pins and Needles Puff Sleeve Faux Fur Coat is $168.00 at Urban Outfitters.

 

The second coat, the Just My Luxe, is a  black faux mink with collar. It is a very retro waistcoat with quarter-length sleeves and a ribboned belt. The Just My Luxe Jacket is $97.99 at Modcloth.

 

There is also a sweater that caught my eye. The Irina Cardigan has a fur collar cardigan, making the sweater a perfect match for any dress and would look sweet even with jeans. The major selling point for me is the detachable collar. Translation I can make any of my coats and cardigans a lush throwback. The Irina Cardigan is $198.00 at Anthropologie.

Modcloth: Inspired Vintage Shopping!

I was not quite prepared for what I saw at Modcloth during my daily perusal of the site. I had just passed over a nude a-line sleeveless sheath at Urban Outfitters, hopeful that it would hit the sale rack before my birthday.  Then, I saw the one. You know,  that perfect purchase that will trump all others you might make for the month, or perhaps even for the year.  Almost like your first love, it brings instant gratification upon first sight.

The Effervescent Evening Dress is a slighter darker shade of peach than the nude Urban Outifitter's dress I first had in mind.  Also an a-line, the Effervescent Evening Dress  has the sexiest  slit down the center of the spine. I did a back- test  sitting and standing. (We make no purchases without practice.) The slit should hit on what is perhaps the smallest part of the back; in other words no wardrobe malfunctions.  The real icing on the cake are the embellished shoulders reminiscent of old Hollywood.  Lights, camera, action!  You will definitely feel like a star in this dress.
