The episode, which will air on the Food Network on March 24, 2011, will feature the show's star Randy Finch and his team at Ice Sculptures Ltd and their incredibly awesome geeky ice sculpture based on one of the most iconic images from the Star Wars franchise [...] |
‘Superman’ Gets A Father And His Name Is Kevin Costner Posted: 17 Mar 2011 09:07 PM PDT Just recently we found out that the unexpected choice to play Superman's mother/caretaker, Martha Kent, in director Zack Snyder's upcoming new take on the superhero would be the cougar-hot Diane Lane...but who would play his father, Jonathan Kent? It's being reported, after many whispers and rumors, that Dances With Wolves and Waterworld star Kevin Costner will be playing Mr. Kent in the movie, currently titled The Man of Steel. Snyder explained that Costner epitomizes "Heartland America" and that "Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time." Snyder also touched on his approach to making this brightest of spotlight projects, which should make fanboys a little more comfortable with the movie. [...] |
Oscar Nominee Jennifer Lawrence To Play Katniss Everdeen In ‘The Hunger Games’ Posted: 17 Mar 2011 06:26 PM PDT When it all came down to casting the pivotal role of Katniss Everdeen, the female lead in Suzanne Collins' popular book The Hunger Games, it came down to three Academy Award-nominated actresses -- not a bad decision to be faced with as a filmmaker. The final three hopefuls were Abigail Breslin (nominated for Little Miss Sunshine), Jennifer Lawrence (just nominated for Winter's Bone), and Hailee Steinfeld (also just nominated for her performance in True Grit), but now only one remains. Lionsgate Entertainment has officially announced that Miss Lawrence will be playing the role of Katniss, a 16-year-old girl who participates in an annual event among 12 districts where teenage boys and girls from each district are forced to fight to the death on live TV. The choice of Lawrence is an interesting one in the fact that the actress is currently 20 years old, while her two competitors, Breslin and Steinfeld, are both 14 years of age. [...] |

You can read a synopsis for the movie and check out the three new images for The Ballad of Nessie by clicking on below now. You can see the short when Winnie the Pooh hits theaters on July 15, 2011. SYNOPSIS Set in the "bonny blue highlands" of Scotland, "The Ballad of Nessie" is a whimsical and colorful tall tale about the friendly Loch Ness monster, Nessie, and how she and her best friend MacQuack the rubber duck came to live in the moor they now call home. Darren Aronofsky Forced To Exit ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ Sequel Posted: 17 Mar 2011 02:01 PM PDT Two of the stranger announcements of recent memory involved Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, and Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky. One was when we were informed that he would be directing a remake of RoboCop and the other was news that he was going to take on a sequel to the not-so-popular comic book spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine, titled The Wolverine. It didn't take long before RoboCop fell apart, but there was a point in time where it seemed like he was really going to join star Hugh Jackman and deliver a Wolverine flick. Now comes word, unfortunately, that Aronofsky has decided to step away from the movie, though it seems as though he had little choice in the matter. Before today, a script for The Wolverine was finished by Chris McQuarrie and all indications were that it was very good, following Wolverine's Samurai storyline in Japan. Aside from a couple of delays, it appeared that production would begin some time in the near future. [...] |

Film Legend & ‘Batman’ Star Michael Gough Has Died Posted: 17 Mar 2011 10:58 AM PDT Sad news across the world for geeks today, as word has reached us that the wonderful actor, Michael Gough, has passed away. He was 94 years old. To most people, Michael Gough was well known for his role as Alfred Pennyworth in the 1990's Batman movie series, beginning with Tim Burton's Batman in 1989 and right through Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin in 1997. However, this wasn't Michael Gough's first involvement in a franchise loved by geeks internationally. A very young Gough appeared as The Celestial Toymaker in Doctor Who back in 1965. The episode, The Celestial Toymaker, saw Gough act with the First Doctor William Hartnell. He would later appear with Fifth Doctor Peter Davison, playing a different role, in the episode Arc of Infinity [...] |
Geek God Nathan Fillion Graces EW Cover Posted: 17 Mar 2011 08:54 AM PDT Let's face it, Nathan Fillion is a geek god and we all kneel before him... now if only the world would realize how awesome he is! Luckily, Entertainment Weekly at least knows we want more of the Firefly actor, as the magazine has acknowledged his Geek God status and made Fillion its cover guy for its March 25, 2011 issue, which hits stands tomorrow. Fillion, who's currently starring in the ABC television series Castle, graces the cover wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt, a nod surely to the days when the actor was widely rumored for the role of Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern file (a role that eventually went to Ryan Reynolds), as well as to the awesome fan-made trailer that actually places Fillion in the role [...] |
New Compilation From Iron Maiden Coming Soon: ‘From Fear To Eternity’ Posted: 17 Mar 2011 07:22 AM PDT There's a new compilation album coming out from Iron Maiden, and the awesome music and brutal album cover (click image for the full view of awesomeness) will be coming out on May 23, 2011. For those who are both curious and generous, that's nearly a week after my birthday [hint-hint!]. Seriously though, this new 2-disc album looks like a ripper. It's called From Fear to Eternity and focuses on the last 20 years of the band. In 2009, the Irons released a compilation called Somewhere Back in Time: The Best of 1980-1989, which focused on their first 10 years of reshaping, redefining, and dominating metal. This new album is being touted as the follow-up, and focuses on the releases Maiden has put out there from 1990 - 2010, and is a nice way to celebrate 30 years of the most influential bands in metal [...] |
