Comic Review: Cloak and Dagger #1 Posted: Cloak and Dagger #1 One-shot Written by Stuart Moore Cover and art by Mark Brooks Colors by Emily Warren Letters by Dave Sharpe Marvel Comics Price: $3.99 Release Date: March 31, 2010 I have always been a bit of a Cloak and Dagger fan, and I have been pleased to see them in more Marvel Comics lately. They were duped by Norman Osborn into joining his Dark X-Men, but came to their senses and joined the real X-Men team. I was really excited about my favorite duo on the team. For the uninitiated, Cloak and Dagger were two runaway kids living on the streets who were kidnapped and injected with drugs. These drugs transformed Tandy Bowen into Dagger, a creature of light energy, and Tyrone "Ty" Johnson became Cloak, a creature powered by Darkforce who teleports and absorbs energy, usually from humans, to survive. The story for this Cloak and Dagger #1 one-shot opens with Dagger training with the Young X-Men and fitting in pretty well on Utopia, the X-Men's island headquarters off the coast of San Francisco [...] |
Atari Apocalypse: ‘Donkey Kong’ & Other Classic Arcade Games Invade New York In ‘Pixels’ Posted: A super-duper-awesome new video has hit the web with a vengeance, and it's from French director Patrick Jean and Paris visual effects studio One More Productions. The short film is called Pixels, and it basically shows many different classic arcade games taking over New York City. You'll see Asteroids space crafts shooting vehicles below, Tetris blocks interlocking with buildings, Pac-Man eating his way through the subway, Donkey Kong tossing barrels from the top of the Empire State Building, and more. Dust off your Atari and click on over to the other side to witness Pixels immediately! This is an absolutely can't-miss video from anyone who's danced with the godfathers of video game history. Even cooler -- when these video games take something out as they would in their respective games, that object becomes pixelated itself, and breaks down into many little pieces (kinda like those Skittles commercials, but with pixels!). As cool as this video is, I'm not sure I would enjoy experiencing this chaos. Those Tetris blocks are freakin' vicious, man. [...] |
Want To Turn Your House Into The USS Enterprise? Massive ‘Star Trek’ Yard Sale Is For You! Posted: So you're a Trekkie, eh? These are the days that you dream of. A company in Las Vegas called Propworx is preparing to sell around a thousand different items from Star Trek: The Experience, which ran for ten years and shut down in 2008. The many items will apparently be sold via auction and in a giant warehouse (okay, so it's not really a yard sale, but close enough) tomorrow. The attraction featured many replications and props from the Trek universe, and also featured some popular rides. These rides included an encounter with the Klingons and even a 4D Borg attack. There's good and bad aspects to all of this. The good is that these are just replicas, so most of the stuff is pretty affordable to all. The bad part is that if you don't live in Vegas, you might just miss out on a lot of the goodies! Once I discovered the above-linked Propworx website (where you can go and see lots of images and gain info on the sale), however, I did find out that there was still a way for you Trekkies around the country to still get your hands on some treasures...if you're lucky. ‘Danger Girl’ Comic To Get Big-Screen Adaptation Posted: A big-screen adaptation of the Wildstorm comic book series Danger Girl is in the works with Todd Lincoln directing, according to a Hero Complex interview with its producer Adrian Askarieh. Askarieh, who's currently producing Relativity's film adaptation of Devil's Due Publishing's Hack/Slash, described the planned Danger Girl movie as "Kill Bill meets Raiders of the Lost Ark with the "team" element of Mission: Impossible." The Danger Girl comic book series debuted in 1998 from creators J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell, and has Campbell's now distinctive buxom hot babe artwork. The series follows Abbey Chase, a treasure-hunting demolitions expert who joins the top-secret Danger Girl organization in their action adventures. All the ladies are well-endowed and gorgeous, typically wearing tight, revealing clothing, but the difference between these babes and those on Baywatch is that the Danger Girls are highly skilled and intelligent, not to mention lethal [...] |
Posted: The Runaways Directed by Floria Sigismondi Starring Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Stella Maeve, Scout Taylor-Compton, Michael Shannon Rated R Release date(s) January 24, 2010 (SFF) March 19, 2010 (limited) April 9, 2010 (wide) The Runaways is a film is based on lead singer Cherie Currie's memoir, Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway and it does a pretty good job of showing us what life was like for a teenage Runaway. For those uninitiated (like myself before seeing the film) The Runaways were a 1970s rock band that broke musical taboos with their all-girl lineup. While I was watching the film I was thinking about how those same taboos, to a large extent, still exist in today's musical world. In 2006, I remember Beyoncé Knowles making a huge fuss when she introduced her all-female tour band Suga Mama, which includes bassists, drummers, guitarists, horn players, keyboardists and percussionists. I would've thought 35 years would be enough time to break down those male barriers in pop/rock music, but I guess not. The film is written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, a fashion photographer largely known for her music video direction. Sigismondi does a good job for a first time director but there wasn't anything special or distinctive about her style [...] |
Posted: Shadow Prowler Book 1 of The Chronicles Of Siala Trilogy Hardcover By Alexey Pehov Translated by Andrew Bromfield Tor Books Release date: February 16, 2010 The first novel of a new trilogy, Alexey Pehov's Shadow Prowler, is classic sword and sorcery fiction, practically overflowing with wizards, warriors, thieves, and mythological creatures roaming a rich fantasy landscape. With a certain tongue in cheek humour and the traditional quest story arc, Shadow Prowler carries a lot of appeal for traditional fans who enjoy the high fantasy genre. Shadow Prowler follows the story of Shadow Harold, a thief given the task of reclaiming a magic Horn to keep the black evil of the Nameless One from consuming the kingdom of Siala. Teamed up with an Elfin Princess, ten members of a legendary warrior troop known as the Wild Hearts, and a goblin jester, they must make their way through an underground labyrinth composed of the bones of the dead to reclaim what's been stolen from them by demons hoping to unleash their evil master [...] |
