Luxe Philantrophy: Ford CEO, Alan Mulally Receives The Helping Hand Award

I hope your weekend was fantabulous!

As you know, I do believe in, advocate for, and live a life devoted to helping others.  As I have always said, someone somewhere helped us to get to where we are, so giving back is a must.

So today, I want to highlight the charitable acts of the CEO of Ford, Inc.  Mr. Alan Mulally received the "Helping Hand Award".  The Steve Harvey Foundation gives this award every year at their annual Gala.  The award  is given to those who extend their hands on a continual basis to ensure that at the end of their time they have done their fair share to help their fellow man.  Past award recipients include, Geoffrey Canada (President and CEO of the Harlem Children's Zone), Pamela El (Vice President of Marketing at State Farm), and actor/director Denzel Washington.  Mr. Mulally is known for his commitment to funding education and social initiatives for the children of Detroit.  

The event took place at Cipriana Wall Street on April 4th.

Fun Fridays: Reality TV For A Cause: ABC's The Secret Millionaire

My favorite quote in life is: Success is failure turned inside out.  Message? Despite life hurdles, never quit.

You Divas know I am a sucker for charitable causes.  All luxe Divas understand the importance of helping others.  Because let's face it, someone somewhere down the line helped you.  So when ABC sent me some information about a new show they are broadcasting called, The Secret Millionaire, I was more than happy to spread the word about this amazing show.  The Secret Millionaire is a new one hour show that will debut on Sunday March 7th at 8pm.  This show follows self-made millionaires as they spend a week in very poor neighborhoods to identify community organizations and individuals that are doing amazing charitable acts to assist people in need.  After these millionaires have spent a week in the community volunteering with these organizations, they gift these community heroes with large sums of money to continue their mission...helping those in need.

The interesting twist to this show is that the millionaires pose as regular folks that want to volunteer to help the community.  So no one in the community knows the "new volunteer" is a millionaire.  The millionaires are forced to live in conditions that are similar equivalent to those living below the poverty level.  So the millionaires are deprived of the comforts of their millionaire lifestyle for about one week.

I had an opportunity to preview the first episode and here are my thoughts.

1.  It is a tear jerker.  So if you do not like sappy show, then this may not be for you.  But it is definitely of the same vein as Extreme Home Makeover.  The individuals who are sacrificing all of their time and money to help the community are just gems.  Some operate on little or no resources to make sure those who are less fortunate have just a little bit more.  It is inspiring and actually made me examine myself and ask "what else can I do to help those in need?

2. This shows exposes the viewer to some unbelievable organizations and individuals.  It was astounding to learn the different and creative ways people are helping others.

3. A little goes a long way.  At first, I was a little disappointed that the millionaire in the first episode didn't give these organizations millions of dollars.  Instead she gave about a hundred thousand dollars.  However, the organizations were so grateful and thankful for the money it was just refreshing.  Each person said the amount was more than they ever received and at the end of the episode, the viewer is able to see the tremendous impact the dollars made on each organization. Priceless.

I am really excited to see this show on Sunday nights.  If you love a good feel good story and want to be inspired, you have to watch.
