Tina Fey and Steve Carrell fought against the3D gods of Olympus, and dragons at the weekend box-office. And they won. According to 20th Century Fox, the comedy film Date Night raked in $27.1 million during its first weekend in the US and Canada. The Fox estimated that the 2D movie earned about $8,032 per screen in 3,374 theatres. It is now considered the biggest comedy debut of 2010 so far.

The movie is about a fortyish married couple, Phil and Claire Foster, with two kids in New Jersey. They decided to have a "date night" in order to rekindle their romance by re-experiencing the joys and thrills of their dates of the yesteryears. So decided to go out and eat dinner in a posh restaurant. But they did not have a reservation so they stole someone else's table, the Triplehorns. It turns out the Triplehorns are thieves and a pair of corrupt cops are after them. Now, they are embroiled in a wacky situation of mistaken identities as they get involved in explosive and dangerous adventure. It also stars Mark Wahlberg, Ray Liotta, James Franco, Mila Kunis, Mark Ruffalo, Kristen Wiig, Common, Leighton Meester, and Taraji P. Henson. The movie had an estimated budget of $55 million.

Fey had a wonderful weekend besides the box-office results. She returned to host Saturday Night Live and had positive reviews. She spoofed again Sarah Palin, the former Governor of Alaska and Vice-presidential candidate of the Republican Party in the US. Her impersonation of Palin won her an Emmy in 2009 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series and was named Entertainer of the Year by Entertainment Weekly. She resigned from SNL in 2006 to concentrate on 30 Rock, which she created and stars in. She won a lot of awards for her role as Liz Lemmons, including awards from the Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAG. Her other films include Mean Girls and Baby Mam.

The movie was not a career high for Carrell. His movie Get Smart in 2008 raked in $38 million on its first weekend, while Evan Almighty earned about $31.1 million in 2007. He is best known for his role in tv's The Office. He won the Best Actor in 2006's Golden Globes, for his role Michael Scott in The Office. He also starred in films like Anchorman, The 40-Year Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, and Horton Hears a Who!

3D Clash of the Titans fell to the no. 2 spot which earned $26.9 million. It dropped by 56% compared to last weekend. The movie has earned $110.5 million worldwide.

DreamWorks Animations' How To Train Your Dragon grabbed the third spot with $25.4 million. It just dropped 13% in its third week after its release. The 3D animated movie has grossed $133.9 million worldwide.

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too was in the fourth spot with $11 million and dropped an estimated 62.4% for the weekend. It has grossed $48.5 million overall.

Grabbing the fifth spot is Miley Cyrus' The Last Song with $10.1 million. It has grossed $42.4 million overall.
