Contest: ‘Neon Angel: A Memoir Of A Runaway’ Book

Posted:

The Runaways, which stars of Kirsten Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning at Cherie Currie, is based on Currie's autobiography Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway, so to celebrate the film's wide release in theaters this weekend, we here at Geeks of Doom have five (5) copies to give away to some lucky readers!

Five (5) winners will each receive:

One (1) copy of Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway

I've read the book and trust me, it's a good one. Currie talks about her upbringing and then goes into detail about her time with The Runaways, which was an all-girl teenage rock band in the 1970s and if you see the movie (which I suggest you do), you'll see how just how hard these young girls had it and what they did for rock and roll. Currie's original version of the autobiography has been out of print since the 1990s, but thanks to It Books, the book is not only back in print, but has also been improved upon. I now only three copies of this book (2 of the original; one of the new version), so yeah, I'm lovin' this contest. So, enter to win!!!

Cherie Currie, with her signature Bowie haircut and fishnet stockings, was the groundbreaking lead singer of '70s teenage all-girl rock band the Runaways. At the tender age of fifteen, she joined a group of talented girls—Joan Jett and Lita Ford on guitar, Jackie Fox on bass, and Sandy West on drums—who could play rock like no one else [...]

Must Watch: Carl Erik Rinsch Short Film ‘The Gift’

Posted:

Carl Erik Rinsch has only really directed commercials so far, but his name became known when it was announced that the Ridley Scott understudy would be directing the prequel of the 1979 horror classic, Alien.

Eventually we found out that Scott himself would instead be taking over the Alien project for Fox, which was great news for fans of the original but not so good news for Rinsch. So what has the rising director gone on to do since then? Well, a little short film called The Gift (no, Keanu Reeves in not in it), and it just so happens to have studios in a bidding war to acquire the rights to develop a feature film based on it.

Be sure to continue on over to the other side to watch the short film. It's very much worth the five minutes of your time.

The Gift tells the story of a gift being delivered in a strange alternate reality Russia. The gift is delivered with no complications, but after it is opened, chaos ensues. [...]

Blu-ray Review: ‘Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day’

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Troy Duffy
Starring Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, Clifton Collins Jr., Billy Connolly, Julie Benz, Peter Fonda, Judd Nelson, Bob Marley, Brian Mahoney, David Ferry, David Della Rocco
Sony Home Entertainment
Release Date: March 9, 2010

If you read Geeks of Doom, you know I've been one of the biggest supporters of a sequel to 1999's The Boondock Saints for as long as one has been rumored, which is about eleven years now. And from the moment Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day became official, any time anything was released about the movie, I was jumping on it. Various different posts came of it all, including interviews with stars Clifton Collins Jr. and Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus.

Because of my love for the first and my being proud of its Boston roots, that made me a likely biased candidate to review the film when it was released on DVD and Blu-ray, but it was in-fact only fitting that I do so. I did enjoy the movie after all was said and done, but surprisingly, there were also things that I was not a big fan of and I'll be sure to share them all! [...]

DVD Review: ‘Nurse Jackie’ Season One

Nurse Jackie Season One
Blu-ray | DVD
Starring Edie Falco, Eve Best, Peter Facinelli
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release date: February 25, 2010

On the surface Nurse Jackie looks a lot like another doctor show on television right now. Starring Edie Falco as the titular Nurse Jackie Peyton, viewers get a glimpse into the life of a strong, loving, and yet also hard to love nurse and her rather complicated life. When she is not busy saving lives and making sure idiot doctors don't get in the way, she is doing her best to keep her rather messy work life from colliding with her already hectic home life. She is also nursing a killer painkiller addiction she is keeping from everyone she knows, as well as another pretty big secret (which I won't reveal here).

I have to admit, other than this show, I haven't seen any of Falco's work on the Sopranos. However, I do know that when an actor from a popular TV show ventures off to headline his or her own series, it is a pretty big deal. Will the show work? Will viewers be able to disconnect them from their previous work and focus on this show? Can this actor even hold a show on their own after being a part of an ensemble this whole time? Luckily, in this case, all these questions can be answered with a resounding yes, thanks in part to a great writing and great acting one-two punch [...]

‘Wolverine’ Mutant Taylor Kitsch To Star In Not-What-You-Expected ‘Battleship’ Movie

Posted:

Before X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we didn't know much about Taylor Kitsch, and even since his turn as the Southern gambling mutant, Gambit, we haven't seen him much. But what Kitsch has done since then, is set himself up for some major stardom.

It's being reported that Taylor Kitsch has been cast to star in Peter Berg's feature based on the popular board game, Battleship, in which players strategically place their fleet of ships, and then proceed to fire back and forth at each other until someone's fleet has been completely submerged. The project is one of a handful of currently in-development films based on Hasbro games and toys.

Aside from his theatrical breakout in Wolverine, Kitsch has mainly been busy as a regular on the hit show Friday Night Lights, which was actually developed by Berg. With that show set to end after its fifth season, other opportunities have begun flowing in steadily. The first big casting that he grabbed was the lead in Pixar alum Andrew Stanton's much-buzzed science fiction adventure, John Carter of Mars, which many expect to be huge. With the addition of Battleship to his schedule, the sky's the limit. [...]
