Tiger Woods still no.1 in “Fortunate 50”; Matthew Stafford at no. 11 Posted: 21 Jul 2010 04:25 PM PDT Despite the sex-cheating scandal and endorsement being dropped (Gatorade, AT&T, and Accenture), controversial golfer Tiger Woods is still the richest athlete in America in Sports Illustrated seventh annual "Fortunate 50" 2010 list.
Tiger Woods takes the top spot with $90 million followed by fellow golfer Phil Mickelson with $61 million. At third spot is Floyd "Pretty Boy" Mayweather Jr., a million short against Mickelson, $60,250,000. Tiger's endorsement income fell by about $22 million following his admission of infidelity, from $92,000,000 last year to $70,000,00 this year. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is No. 11, due to salary and other bonuses in which the Detroit Lions will pay out to their rookie quarterback this year, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He earned $27.65 million, ($750,000 comes from endorsements). The list is consists of 50 highest-earning American athletes, based on salary, winnings, endorsements and appearance fees.
